Tag | Why Do I Wear Makeup?

Hello! We were tagged to do this by Chelsea from tigerlovebeauty so thank you for tagging us and definitely check out her blog!

1. When did you begin loving makeup?

Sarah | I would say only quite recently I started wearing makeup when I was about 12/13 but not enough to say I loved it, then it was just something I used to make myself look a bit nicer.

Alanah | The same as Sarah, I only really started having more of an interest and loving makeup maybe around a year ago, but I starting wearing it earlier than that. 

2. How do you feel without makeup?

Sarah | Depends where I am and who I'm with, if I was just with friends at one of our houses or something then I'd feel normal, but out in public I'd probably feel quite self conscious. I wish I felt confident enough to go out with a bare face, but I'm sadly not.

Alanah | Again the same as Sarah, with friends at someones house I would feel totally fine without makeup on but if I was out say shopping I would at least have to have a little bit on to feel confident.

3. What do you like about makeup?

Sarah | To me, make is like a piece of clothing without it I feel onside, and I love mix and matching with colours and brands. Using make-up is like a hobby and it just makes me feel a bit better about myself wearing it.

Alanah | I love how many different looks you can make with different eye and lip colors.  I think it's fun to experiment and see what looks best on you, I love applying it and choosing new things to buy.  I also love it because it makes me feel waay more confident by covering up any insecurities and enhancing features like my eyes.

4. Three holy grail items:

Sarah | 1- My forever loved Collection ever lasting perfection concealer

             2- Benefits they're real mascara (makes my lashes look amazing)
 3- Carmex lip balm (my must have for in winter!) 

Alanah | 1 - Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer (Only black eyeliner I ever buy!)
2 - Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer (Definitely makes me look more awake haha...)
3 - Sephora glossy glosses (I love lipgloss and these are my favourite!)

Makeup

Blush or bronzer?

Sarah: Bronzer, I prefer the sun glow look
Alanah | Bronzer aswell, I like to look more tanned and contour with it!

Eye liner or mascara?

Sarah: Mascara, although I am really loving cat eyes at the moment, but mascara just brightens my eyes.
Alanah | Mascara because I think eyeliner without mascara can look a little odd.  Also I have small eyes so mascara helps - I do like my eyeliner too though

Foundation or concealer?

Sarah: Concealer, I find when I use concealer I don't need a foundation
Alanah | Concealer, quite often I will just wear concealer

Neutral or color eye shadow?

Sarah: Neutral, but really wish I could be a bit more daring, just don't think I can pull off colored eye shadow
Alanah | Neutral but sometimes I like to add a little bit of color in with the neutral (like dark purples and dark greens)

Nails

Long or short?

Sarah: Definitely long, I love my nails to look long and healthy
Alanah | I like it when my nails are just longer than my finger, so fairly short but fairly long.  However my nails don't really grow much (so I have no choice) :(

Acrylic or natural?

Sarah: Natural, I had acrylic nails on for my prom and they killed my nails, hated it!
Alanah | I've never actually tried Acrylic, they look nice but I think I'd prefer natural so i don't damage my nails!

Brights or darks?

Sarah: Depends on the season, bright for summer and dark for winter
Alanah | Same as Sarah, however I also like brights in Winter - so probably brights I suppose

Body

Perfume or body splash?

Sarah: Definitely perfume, it just last longer on my body
Alanah | Yeah perfume too, but I like body splashes/sprays to take out with me

Lotion or body butter?

Sarah: Body butter, I get super dry skin and I find body butters to be more moisturizing
Alanah | I prefer body butter however it takes me ages to put on so I probably use Lotion more. (Apart from the Soap and Glory body butter which I use all the time)

Body wash or soap?

Sarah: Body wash, because they smell so much nicer than soap, also I'm currently using a glittery one! (Gok Wan)
Alanah | Definitely body wash, I barely use soap - I love citrusy scents for body washes too.

Fashion

Jeans or sweat pants?

Sarah: Jeans when I'm out but for when I'm just at home I'll live in joggers
Alanah | Jeans, but the same as Sarah I wear like yoga pants a lot at home and they're so comfy to lounge

Long sleeve of short?

Sarah: I don't really mind, more depends on the weather if its cold then long sleeve, and if its hot then I'd rather wear short sleeve
Alanah | I'd say short sleeve but only because I think the styles of short sleeved tops are nicer

Dresses or skirts ?

Sarah: I don't wear either often unless its a party, but I'd have to say dress out of the two
Alanah | Dresses but like Sarah I don't really wear them unless it's a party or special occasion.

Scarves or hats?

Sarah: Hats! I love hats and have loads
Alanah | Everyone tells me that hats suit me so I love them but I never have the guts to wear one out, but I love scarves too so i'll have to save scarves.

Studs or dangly earrings? 

Sarah: Probably studs, most dangly earrings just annoy and always feel really heavy on my ears
Alanah | Um, lately I've been wearing more dangly earrings, I like feather earrings because they are light. (But I also like studs ah)

Necklaces or bracelets? 

Sarah: Necklaces, especially statement necklaces, they just bring an outfit together
Alanah | Necklaces, I barely ever wear more than one bracelet if any aha.

Heels or flats?

Sarah: Flats, because I have really small feet (3/4) it makes heels really painful for me to stay in for any longer than 2 hours
Alanah | I love wearing heels with dresses (to parties) but other than that, always flats

Topshop or river island?

Sarah: Topshop, I just prefer their clothing
Alanah | Topshop, I find so much in there that I want compared to River Island

Abercombie or Hollister?

Sarah: Hollister, only because I go in there more often
Alanah | Well I'm just going to add in Gilly Hicks and say that, because that's my favourite :) But Hollister because there is one nearer

Hair

Curly or straight?

Sarah: Curly, I find it gives my hair more volume and texture
Alanah | Oooh I can never decide, I like to mix my hair between them really.  I think I like curly more however when my hair is straight it does look longer!

Bun or ponytail?

Sarah: Bun, I think you can make buns look really effective and you can have them messy or tight, depending on the occasion
Alanah | Ponytail because I like when it swings around, and my buns always fall out aha

Bobby pins or butterfly clips?

Sarah: Bobby pins, stay better in my hair even though I loose them everyday
Alanah | Bobby pins, I tried butterfly clips the other day and they really don't work in my hair because it's so thick

Long or short?

Sarah: Long, I'm currently growing my hair out and its getting quite long, I'm also trying to keep it healthy so I'm trying out a lot of new treatments (let me know if you want reviews on them)
Alanah | Longggg, I'm trying to grow it longer 

Light or dark?

Sarah: I would probably say light but I don't really like bleach blonde hair just a middle caramel color is my favorite
Alanah | Light for me, I really want my hair to be lighter - maybe a dark blonde type of color

Side sweep bangs or full bangs?

Sarah: Side swept, I used to have full bangs and they just didn't suit me at all
Alanah | Side swept, I also used to have full bangs/fringe and I hated it

Up or down?

Sarah: Down, especially in winter to keep your neck and shoulders warmer
Alanah | Down, I barely ever wear my hair up unless it's really hot

Random

Summer or winter?

Sarah: Summer, because I'm always cold, but I do prefer winter clothes
Alanah | When it's Summer I say I prefer Summer, but when it's Winter I say i prefer Winter.  But probably Summer because I absolutely love the beach when its hot

Fall or spring?

Sarah: Fall, because I love Halloween (so excited!)
Alanah | Fall apart from my birthday in Spring 

Chocolate or vanilla?

Sarah: I am literally a chocoholic, and eat way to much of it
Alanah | Chocolate, I've had so much today and we have chocolate cake downstairs, wooooopsie

Makeup tag!

We found this tag online and decided to do it, hopefully you will learn some more about us from this :)

How old were you when you started wearing makeup?

Alanah | Probably about 12 but it was only a little bit like mascara and concealer, but a full face around 14 - 15 maybe

Sarah | I started when i first went to secondary school so about 12, but only lip gloss and mascara, I didn't start wearing a full face until around the same as Alanah like 14-15

Who taught you to apply makeup?

Alanah | I mainly taught myself, and I used videos on Youtube of beauty gurus for things like eye shadow and blending tips

Sarah | I taught myself really but through trial and error and if the way someone else would apply a product didn't work for me, i'd change it so i could apply products well but easily, and i love watching beauty gurus on Youtube, *cough* Zoella, *cough cough* Tanya Burr..

What's your favorite eye makeup look to wear?

Alanah | Usually just a smokey eye, I usually use either greys + blacks or bronzes, golds + browns.  Sometimes I will add some dark purple or mossy green type color (If i feel like it).  Then I just do eyeliner all around my eye with a small flick

Sarah | I love eye shadows, its a way of bringing more colour to your face, my favorites would be bronze, cream, or pale pink with a liquid liner to make my eyelashes seam thicker.

What's your favorite makeup brand?

Alanah | I like different brands for different products but my favourites are; Benefit, Mac, Revlon and Rimmel probably.  Although I love loads more too!

Sarah | Like Alanah, it depends on the product itself, my top products would be; Benfit, No7, Mac, Bare Minerals, and Rimmel 

Do you wear foundation on a daily basis?

Alanah | Not everyday, sometimes I just wear concealer and powder and if my skin looks alright then I will just leave the foundation

Sarah | Foundation often breaks me out if i wear it too often, so i only wear it on special occasions like party's, or family events

Have you ever worn false eyelashes?
Alanah | Only at my prom I wore fake ones on the end of my eyelashes, otherwise no

Sarah | Just at prom, and i loved them they made my eyes look so much bigger, aha!

What makeup do you wear everyday?

Do you prefer high end brands or drugstore?

Alanah | A mixture really, it depends what the product is but the drugstore can have some reeeally good products!

Sarah | I'm not  someone who buys a product over one that's just as good because its high end, it depends on how good the product is on me, however I am a real bargain hunter so if there's a really good drugstore product, I'll easily buy it over the high end equivalent

What color are your eyes?

Alanah | Hazel

Sarah | Brown, but I've always wanted blue eyes:(

What color of eyeshadows make your eyes pop?

Alanah | I think purples and dark mossy greens

Sarah | I love wearing browns but it doesn't make my eyes pop, apparently grey's and purples do, i should wear them more often

Do you use makeup brushes? What brand?

Alanah | Yeah, loads of different brands - I like the sephora's own make brushes, but I can't get them in England :(

Sarah | I do, my favorite ones are the 'Real Techniques' brushes by Samantha Chapman, you can find them online or in Boots

Do you prefer lipstick, lipgloss, or neither?
Alanah | If i had to have one then lip gloss, but I do like wearing them both together really

Sarah | If i had to choose I'd say lipstick because I've always loves anything colourful, like nail varnish and eye shadows. But i do still love lip gloss!

What's 1 makeup product you can't live without?
Alanah | Probably mascara because I have quite small eyes and they make them look bigger, or concealer or powder, that's a tricky one! Oh or lip gloss I love lip gloss

Sarah | Defiantly concealer to hide my horrible under eye circles! *cry*

Why do you wear makeup? 
Alanah | Because I feel more confident with it on, and without it i look about 10

Sarah | Wearing makeup to me is like a hobby, I love applying it and changing up looks and I find the more I apply it the better I get

Glitter or no glitter? 

Alanah | A bit but I prefer a matte bronzer, I like some glitter on my eyes though - and sometimes in blush

Sarah | Every girl loves a bit of glitter! But don't over do it or you'll look like Robert Patterson in Twilight!

What is one makeup trend you never understood?
Alanah | Um, foundation on your lips or when people wore lip liner round the edge of their lips but didn't fill them in, that looks weird

Sarah | When girls have huge, super filled in eyebrows, they look like slugs on your forehead!

Sponge or brush for applying foundation?
Alanah | Definitely a brush

Sarah | Depends on your skin type, a brush blends product better into by skin than a sponge

Pencil, gel or liquid eyeliner?
Alanah | Pencil, I can't use the others it's so annoying

Sarah | I find gel looks neater on the eye, but I am normally rushing in the morning and don't have the time or patience to use it, so I use a liner

Finally, a tip you wish everyone knew:

Alanah | Maybe to wear a face primer because it actually does make a lot of difference, it makes all my makeup stay on longer and go on smoother

Sarah | When wearing foundation and concealer, apply the foundation first, because foundation has a consistency of cover up in it, you end up putting on more product than you need with concealer as well, so put your foundation on first and if you can still see a pimple or scar then just cover it up.
